About the XML to HTML Table

Reading a long XML export tag by tag is slow. This tool finds the repeating element, for example each <book> in a catalog or <item> in a feed, and shows one row per record with a column per attribute and child element, so gaps and odd values stand out.

Attributes appear as @name columns and nested elements as dotted paths such as author.name. Text in elements that also carry attributes is shown in a #text column. All values are HTML-escaped, so markup inside CDATA sections is displayed, not rendered.

The generated markup is a plain <table> with thead and tbody and no styles, ready to paste into documentation or a CMS. Parsing uses the browser's DOMParser and happens locally; the XML is never inserted into the page as live markup.

Example: a product feed where each <product sku="A1"> has <name> and <price> children becomes a table with the columns @sku, name and price, one row per product.

How to use it

  1. Paste XML or open a file.
  2. Check the preview table.
  3. Copy the HTML code or download it.

Frequently asked questions

Can it show deeply nested XML?
Nested elements are flattened into dotted columns. Very deep or irregular documents produce many columns; XML to JSON may be clearer for those.
Is DTD or XSD validation performed?
No. Only well-formedness is checked; schemas and DTDs are not applied.
Are namespaces supported?
Yes, prefixed names like dc:creator become column names as written.
